Ground Inspection Report

History:-

Early records of Willaston FC are a little sketchy, however a local Willaston man by the name of Jack Whitehead, recollected that the team for whom he played for in 1918 had been in existence ten years earlier in 1908, but no records have been found to further establish the fact.

The team in its former years was known as 'Willaston Wasps' due to their yellow and Black striped kit. They played behind the village Church, before moving to Overdale Road, then they played next to the Old Vicarage, then onto Smythy Lane, before moving to their present home the Johnston Recreation Ground in the mid 1930's.

The club have always competed in the Wirral Leagues before joining the West Cheshire fold in the 1969/70 season.

Their honours include wins in the: Wirral Amateur Cup, Wirral Junior Cup, West Cheshire Bowl and the Pyke Cup, as well two appearances as unlucky beaten finalists in the Cheshire Amateur Cup in 1976/77 and 1977/78.

Willastons league form has lately been something of a roller coaster ride. The club gained promotion to Div 2 as Runners-up in 2004/05, after relegation the season before.

They continue to be a friendly village club and give the small village of Willaston a proud sporting identity.

Willaston Res were elected to the 3rd Division in season 2006/07 but resigned at end of that season.
