Formed in 1946, in the plumber’s shop in Cammell
Lairds shipyard. Both Mersey Royal
and Cammell Laird are now fierce rivals in
the West Cheshire league. They continued to sweep all before them in the 1960’s and 70’s in the Birkenhead League and later the Wirral Combination League. This success eventually gaining them West Cheshire status in 1976. Although after initially proving to be a difficult time, it wasn’t long before ‘The Royal’ were back to winning ways.
At the commencement of Season 2002/03 the Reserves had to resign and the first team dropped into the Second Division. The team struggled all season finishing bottom and relegated to Division Three.
