Grounds Inspection Report

History:- Formed in 1946, in the plumber’s shop in Cammell Lairds shipyard.   Both Mersey Royal and Cammell Laird are now fierce rivals in the West Cheshire league.
Mersey Royal's early days were spent in the Birkenhead & Wirral League, but it wasn’t until they started a Youth team in the Birkenhead & Bebington League in the 1959/60 season, that they established themselves as a force in local amateur football.

They continued to sweep all before them in the 1960’s and 70’s in the Birkenhead League and later the Wirral Combination League.   This success eventually gaining them West Cheshire status in 1976.

Although after initially proving to be a difficult time, it wasn’t long before ‘The Royal’ were back to winning ways.

The 80’s bringing a host of silverware, and up to date they have won every trophy entered, all but one that is, the West Cheshire Division One title, finishing in Second place on a number of occasions.

At the commencement of Season 2002/03 the Reserves had to resign and the first team dropped into the Second Division. The team struggled all season finishing bottom and relegated to Division Three.
